The Mission of the Advocate

Mission Statement
The Wesleyan Christian Advocate is the official newspaper published by the North and South
Georgia Conferences of the United Methodist Church.

The purpose is:

To inform Georgia United Methodists about news and issues of importance to the church;
To provide a channel of communications to United Methodist families of the state;
To report ministries of members, churches and agencies of the denomination; and
To serve as a forum for the expression of ideas and opinions about issues of concern to United Methodists of Georgia.

The mission requires that the Advocate:
Report news of the church in Georgia and the general church which may be of interest and importance to United Methodists of the state.
Report official action, appointments and other matters of historical interest.
Promote programs and objectives of the administration and program agencies of the two annual conferences and the general church.
Encourage unity and understanding among United Methodists in Georgia by being a trustworthy source of information about what is going on in the denomination, especially in times of controversy.
Enrich the spiritual lives of those who subscribe to and/or read the newspaper by telling the stories of faith reflected in the lives and ministries of individuals, churches and institutions within the state.
Support and explain United Methodist doctrines, programs and positions.
Communicate to the broader community, including political leadership, United Methodist positions and beliefs on issues critical to the church and society.
