Ingwersens Honored By Stone Mountain Woman’s Club
At their annual Christmas Luncheon in December, the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club honored Dick and Terry Ingwersen of the Smoke Rise Community in Stone Mountain, GA as the 2008 Family of the Year. Terry is retired from BAPCO, the Yellow Pages Advertising Unit of BellSouth and Dick, a CPA and Attorney, is one of the founders and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Gifford, Hillegass & Ingwersen, LLP. They are members of Tucker First United Methodist Church and Terry served as a Stephen Minister and is currently on sabbatical. She co-chairs the Home Life Department of the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club and is Chairman of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs 4th District President’s Special Project, Atlanta Community Food Bank/Kids In Need. In addition to her many volunteer hours with the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club, Terry is a weekly volunteer with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, helping to care for cancer patients.

Terry and Dick met while students at Auburn University, and they are big Auburn football fans (Dick was an Auburn football player). Dick was recently named Auburn’s Top Accounting Alumnus. Many of his volunteer activities involve children and youth. A former Chairman of the Downtown YMCA, he has been honored several years as the Downtown YMCA “Volunteer of the Year.” The parents of two sons who are both doing graduate work out of state, Terry and Dick love to spend time with family. Terry’s father is a Senior Judge in DeKalb County, GA and Dick’s parents are retired and live in Vero Beach, Florida. Terry and Dick love to travel and enjoy snow skiing in the Rockies.
UMW prepares flood buckets for UMCOR
The United Methodist Women of Tuckston UMC packed and delivered fifteen Flood Buckets to UMCOR in February. Each bucket contained clothes line, disposable towels, gloves, air freshener, laundry soap, carpet cleaner, and other cleaning supplies necessary to help clean-up after a storm. Members of the church contributed the items. Each bucket costs between $50-$55. They were then sent to the Sager Brown depot in Baldwin, La. Rev. Carl A. Standard | Atlanta, Ga.
The Rev. Carl A. Standard, a retired pastor of the North Georgia Annual Conference, died February 14, 2009. He served churches in North Georgia for over 40 years, and served 20 years as an associate at Atlanta First UMC. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Services were held February 17 at the Dunwoody UMC. He is survived by his sons, Jerry Standard of Locust Grove, Ronnie Standard of Fayetteville, Dean Standard of Stockbridge, and Mark Standard of Covington; his daughters, Gail Morris of Ellijay, Cheryl Creel of Dunwoody, and Pam Terrette of Conyers; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Artis Standard and Jack Standard of Covington; sister, Lorene Johnson of Covington.
Rev. Orman P. Sloat | Springfield, Ga.
The Rev. Orman P. Sloat died December 21, 2008 at his home in Springfield, Ga. He was 93. He served in the So. Indiana Methodist Conference from 1941 to 1948 before moving to the South Georgia Conference in 1948. He served pastorates in Macon, Columbus, St. Simons Island, Camella, Valdosta, Swainsboro, Savannah and Springfield. Services were held December 23 with Dr. Ben Martin and Rev. Earl Seckinger officiating, and his interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia, December24 with Rev. Chance Ward officiating. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane Holbrook Sloat, his sister in law, Anne (Mrs. Lawson) Thigpen, nieces and their husbands, Aurieanne and Bob Sneed and Jane and Todd Copeland, three great nephews and a great niece.
